After Sinus Lift

Gentle care to support healing & comfort

A sinus lift is a specialized procedure designed to create space for future dental implants by safely lifting the sinus membrane and adding bone beneath it. Proper aftercare is essential to protect the surgical area, support healing, and reduce pressure on the sinuses. These instructions are designed to help you recover comfortably and confidently.

01

Immediately After Your Sinus Lift

First 24 Hours

  • Rest with your head elevated

  • Apply cold compresses to reduce swelling

  • Take prescribed or recommended medications as directed

  • Expect some swelling, mild bleeding, or nasal congestion

These effects are normal and should improve gradually.

02

Sinus Precautions

Very Important

To protect the sinus area while it heals:

  • Do not blow your nose

  • Avoid sneezing through your nose (sneeze with your mouth open)

  • Do not use straws or spit forcefully

  • Avoid smoking or vaping

  • Refrain from heavy lifting or bending forward

Reducing pressure is critical for proper healing.

03

Eating & Drinking Guidelines

  • Choose soft foods for the first several days

  • Avoid hot foods and drinks initially

  • Chew away from the surgical area

  • Stay hydrated and sip gently

Your care team will guide you as your diet advances.

04

Oral Hygiene After a Sinus Lift

  • Avoid brushing directly over the surgical area initially

  • Brush and floss gently elsewhere as normal

  • After 24 hours, gentle salt water rinses may be recommended

  • Avoid vigorous rinsing

Keeping your mouth clean helps prevent infection without disturbing healing tissue.

03

Activity & Healing Timeline

  • Avoid strenuous activity for several days

  • Follow all activity restrictions provided by your surgeon

  • Some sinus pressure or fullness may persist temporarily

Healing is gradual and varies from patient to patient.
