Helping Make Dental Care More Affordable

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal program designed to help make dental care more accessible for eligible Canadians who do not have private dental insurance.

At Southwest Smiles Dental Clinic, we believe informed patients make confident decisions, and this page is here to help you understand what the program is, who may qualify, and how it may apply to your care.

As the program continues to roll out in phases, eligibility and coverage details may change. Our team is happy to help answer questions and guide you where possible.

01

What Is the Canadian Dental Care Plan?

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a government-funded program intended to reduce financial barriers to essential dental care for eligible individuals and families. It is administered by the Government of Canada and is separate from private dental insurance or provincial assistance programs.

The plan focuses on helping patients access basic and preventive dental services, supporting long-term oral health.
02

Who May Be Eligible?

You may qualify for the Canadian Dental Care Plan if you:
  • Do not have access to private dental insurance

  • Meet specific household income requirements

  • Are a Canadian resident for tax purposes

  • Have filed a recent tax return

Eligibility is being introduced gradually, beginning with specific age groups and expanding over time.

For the most current eligibility criteria, we recommend visiting the official Government of Canada website.
03

What Services May Be Covered?

Coverage under the CDCP may include some preventive and essential dental services, such as:
  • Dental exams and check-ups

  • Cleanings and preventive care

  • X-rays

  • Basic restorative treatments

Not all services are covered, and some treatments may require pre-approval. Coverage levels and frequency limits may apply.
04
